Introduction

In examining many cultures’ myths and legends of the past, especially those of great civilizations, their writings and visions reveal the appearance of mysterious visitors that communicated various things to them. Numerous accounts referred to these visitors as gods or aliens from another world.

Their belief in superstitions, myths, and a multitude of deities clouded the precision of their accounts. However, James Frazer confirms that many cultures believed in the incarnation of gods into the flesh in his book the Golden Bough. He states: "The belief in temporary incarnation or inspiration is world-wide (p. 108)."

One of the oldest religions, Hindu, had the concept of incarnation long before the formation of Israel as a nation. The Hindus referred to incarnations to "avatars" which will be discussed later in the paper.

H. P. Blavatsky (1831-1891), Founder of Theosophical Society, states the following about the principle of incarnation among the three major religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity in her book Isis Unveiled (© 1988 Theosophical University Press). "No orthodox Brahmans and Buddhists would deny the Christian incarnation; only, they understand it in their own philosophical way, and how could they deny it? The very-corner of their religious system is periodic incarnation of the Deity. Whenever humanity is about merging into materialism and moral degradation, a Supreme Spirit incarnates himself in his creatures selected for the purpose (Vol. II; p. 535)." Clearly, the incarnation of Elohim is a universal phenomenon among all families of the earth, regardless of what these nations imagine Him to be, which will be defined later in this article.

Dr. Henry C. Kinley stated in his book Elohim the Archetype Pattern of the Universe (1961 © IDMR, Inc.) the following point about mankind’s belief of a Supreme being of the earth. "To speak directly of the masses of people on the earth plane, it would be absurd to say here that mankind, from his very earliest inception in the past Ages, did not BELIEVE in the existence of the SUPREME BEING of his IMAGINATION, simply because of his expressions and manifested ignorance of the eternal EXISTENCE of the TRUE PATTERN and SPIRIT LAW of the UNIVERSE and the fundamental principles involved in the operations of the SPIRIT LAW embodied therein." In short, all races of men have sought after a higher power to worship and glorify.

When the Christian Europeans came to the New World, they ridiculed the native people’s accounts of incarnations. The various South American Indian tribes told the Spaniards of a mystery visitor, who they called Viracocha. He demonstrated all types of power and healing and told them that they should love another. He also revealed various sciences to them.

Now the Roman Catholic priests scoffed at these accounts and said this was the devil or one of his demons visiting them. It was definitely not Jesus that appeared to them. Simply put, many Bible students, ministers, etc., believe that Elohim never intercoursed with pagans. This shows the Roman Catholic priests’ ignorance of the Bible and the purpose of Yahweh.

The Bible implies just the opposite. When Peter went to the Gentile Cornelius’ home for his conversion after receiving a vision from Yahshua the Messiah. He said the following: "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that Elohim (God) is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him (Acts 10:34-35; Deu. 10:17; 2 Chron. 19:7)." The Apostle Paul confirmed this by writing that angels appear in human form all the time: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Heb. 13:2)."

It is quite clear to those that have eyes to see that Elohim visited mankind countless times. No one can compute the number of times He appeared in a physical body. In this article it will be shown that Elohim manifested in the flesh at least three or four times to patriarchs before and after the formation of Israel and when he came as the Messiah.

If the Bible can be used as a model, Israel’s experience with Elohim manifest in the flesh reveals that Elohim visited other cultures and people by the same means. By spiritually examining the descriptions of incarnations from some of these cultures, one can see their descriptions are similar to Israel’s account. Now this article is not justifying various cultures’ concepts of God or Spirit, but it will show that Elohim did appear to them in spite of their ignorance as He did to Israel.

For example, many American Indians referred to the Creator as the "Great Spirit" and their descriptions or accounts of entering the spirit realm are basically the same as the Bible.

The book Black Elk Speaks by John G. Neihardt gives the following account. Black Elk describes a vision. As he steps outside of his teepee, he saw "…men with flaming spears were going, a little cloud was coming fast. It came and stooped and took me and turned back to where it came from, flying fast (p. 19)."

Now this cloud took him and two men atop of a mountain and showed him a series of visions. Black Elk’s account compares with Luke’s account of the Messiah ascending into heaven on a cloud with the two men standing by His side (Acts 1:9-10). Now Black Elk’s account cannot be disannulled without disannulling Yahshua the Messiah’s ascension.

Most of the Christian world only sees God manifested in the flesh as the Savior when he came through the loins of the Virgin Mary as Yahshua (Jesus) Christ. There are some that believe that Melchesedec, who the Apostle Paul said he had no beginning and end (Heb. 7:1-3), was Elohim manifested in the flesh. Melchesedec was the king and Priest of Salem to who Abraham gave a tenth of his war spoil.

The Bible setup a schema or pattern of intercourse that Elohim used to communicate with mankind. Specifically, the Bible uses the Hebrew patriarchs and Israel as a model (Isa. 46:9-10).

Because the Bible primarily mentions Elohim’s interaction with the Hebrews, some students of the Bible and scholars assume that Elohim had no intercourse with Gentile nations.

Yet, there are many instances in the Old Testament of Elohim appearing to Gentiles in their dreams, as in the case of Abimelech who took Abraham’s wife and put her in his harem (Gn. 20:3). Also King Nebuchanezzar of Babylon saw the spiritual form of Elohim in the fiery furnace where he had thrown three Israelites (Dn. 3:24-25). He was the same king who saw the kingdoms of the world that would succeed Babylon. Daniel revealed to him that Elohim would set up a kingdom in the earth that would not be destroyed (Dn. 2nd chp.).

Now Baalam the prophet is the most astonishing instance of Elohim intercoursing with Gentiles while at the same time intercoursing with Israel. Most people know Baalam as the man whose ass saw the angel, but Baalam did not. Elohim gave this Gentile the power to curse and bless people (Num. 22-24th chp.). Baalam also had received many visions from Elohim and prophesied the coming of the Messiah (Num. 24:17).

From these Old Testament examples of Gentiles interacting with Elohim, one cannot say categorically that Elohim never manifest in the flesh to any other nations except Israel. Before examining the scriptures, the word "incarnation" must be clearly defined.

When one speaks of incarnations, one has to be aware of the various religions that have their unique and limited way of defining it. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the word "incarnate" is defined as: "…the eternal Word of God (logos), the son of God, the second Person of the trinity became man in Jesus, who was truly God and man. The doctrine maintains that the divine and human natures of Jesus do not exist beside one another in an unconnected way but rather are joined in him in a personal unity that has been traditionally referred to as the hypostasis,… (Vol. V; p. 321)."

The problem with this definition is that it connects incarnation with Jesus being born through Mary. It does not consider the possibility that God or the Word could just materialize from the Spirit realm into the appearance of human form without any human parents.

Later this article will show that Jacob wrestled with Elohim in the form of a man and Abraham prepared dinner for three men one of which was Elohim. This does not include the fact that Joshua the Son of Nun was Elohim in a body, which will also be touched on later in this article.

In fact, all the angels of Elohim have the power of materialization, as the Messiah put on the fleshy body after His resurrection (Lk. 24:15-16; 36-43). It is a known fact that human ghosts can appear in human form and in the next instance disappear.

Once the definition of incarnation has been expanded and the operation of Elohim and Spirit understood, then one can understand the possibility of Elohim manifesting in human form. Let us examine the Messiah’s words in His ministry.

The Messiah told His disciples and Israel on many occasions that He had been in a physical body before He came to atone for sin. On one occasion He said the following to the teachers of Israel before they tried to stone Him. "Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father (Jn. 10:17-18)."

On another occasion, Yahshua told the teachers of Israel: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am (Jn. 8:58)." They again tried to stone him, but he was simply telling them that he was back there physically with the various patriarchs.

There are numerous times when Yahshua referred to himself being "raised again" from the dead. They are as follows:

• Matt 17:23

• Luke 18:33-34

Most Bible commentaries and theologians interpreted "raised again" as being awakened from the dead like one being awakened from sleep. They do not see that Yahshua was referring to Himself getting out of the grave as he had done before.

Now the Greek word for "be risen again" is #1453 "egeiro" (eg-i’-ro). Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines it as follows: "probably akin to the base of #=58 (through the idea of collecting one’s faculties); to waken (transitively or intransitively), i.e. rouse (literally, from sleep, from sitting or lying, from disease, from death; or figuratively, from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, nonexistence):"

To support and understand many of Yahshua’s sayings, one has to go back to the Law and prophets (Isa. 8:20) or the Old Testament to see that in fact the Messiah was in the flesh many times before coming to die for the sins of the world at Golgatha.

Now there are various passages in the book of Genesis that Moses wrote, as the result of his vision atop Mt. Sinai, which clearly show that Yahweh-Elohim visited man in a fleshly body or its appearance.

One of the first Biblically recorded occasions that Elohim manifested Himself in the flesh was when He appeared to Abraham with two other men, who were angels.

Quoting these scriptures as it appears in the King James Version Bible. Moses wrote: "And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day (Gn. 18:1);" [Here "the LORD" should be read Yahweh.]

He did not appear unto Abraham in an apparitional or visionary form as he had previously appeared to him in dreams and visions (Gn. 15:1-2), but with two other men in the fleshy form of humans. Abraham even prepared a meal for them and they did eat. Elohim told Abraham that Sarah his wife was going to have a son in her old age, but his main purpose for coming was to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah (Gn.18th chp.).

Another instance of Elohim appearing in the flesh is when Jacob wrestled a man all night long at a place called Peniel (Gn. 32:24). This man changed Jacob’s name to Israel (Gn. 32:27-28). Jacob asked the man what his name was and he refused to tell Jacob his name. The Jews and Christian scholars traditionally believe that Elohim (God) was the man that changed Jacob’s name.

Now Joseph told his brothers before he died in Egypt that Elohim would surly come to deliver them out of Egypt. He states the following: "And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and Elohim (God) will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob (Gen. 50:24)." Thus, Joseph prophesied that Elohim would come in a physical body to deliver Israel out of Egypt. Elohim appeared as Joshua the Son of Nun, Moses’ minister, fulfilling this prophecy.

One of the strongest pieces of evidence that Elohim was Joshua was Joshua’s own words before he died in Canaan Land. He stated in the 24th chapter of Joshua that He was the one that brought Abraham into Canaan Land that He gave unto Isaac, Esau and Jacob. He also stated that He sent Moses and Aaron into Egypt to plague it. Here are his words. "And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac. And I gave unto Isaac, Jacob, and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt. I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out. And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red Sea. And when they cried unto Yahweh (the LORD,) he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season. And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you (Josh 24:3-8)." Now it is clear that only Elohim could have fulfilled the things that Joshua is referring to for no natural man could have done these things.

When Moses went into the mount the first time and stayed 40 days and nights, Joshua went with him (Ex. 24:16-17). In fact, it was Joshua the son of Nun that transfigured before Moses, as the Messiah, in fulfillment (Mt. 5:17-18), transfigured before His disciples Peter, James and John at Mt. Tabor, showing them His spiritual body (Mt. 17:1-9). There are many other instances of Joshua Son of Nun revealing clues that He was Elohim in body, which this article cannot go into due to space (see "The Clergy Has Ignorantly Called the Messiah a Liar," by Dr. Henry C. Kinley, or his book Elohim the Archetypal Original Pattern of the Universe, Vol. 1, p. 40-44).

Now various South American Indian folklore and myths state that a mystery visitor came to them from another planet or realm and imparted knowledge of science, agriculture, etc. He also worked various miracles and told them that they should love one another. No one can say from these accounts who this visitor was, but the situation seems similar to Elohim appearing in the flesh to the various patriarchs of Israel.

Among the Indians of the Andes in South America, they referred to an ancient visitor called Viracocha who was a teacher and healer. Graham Hancock’s book Fingerprints of the Gods states the following about Viracocha. "…They say that this man traveled along the highland route to the north, working marvels as he went and that they never saw him again. They say that in many places he gave men instructions how they should live, speaking to them with great love and kindness and admonishing them to be good and do no damage or injury one to another, but to love one another and show charity to all… (p. 46-47)."

One may never know exactly who this Viracoccha was, but it does seem probable that Elohim was performing one of His mystery visits to this realm. Before concluding the article, a brief understanding of the Hindu concept of avatar would enhance one’s understanding of Elohim’s incarnation into the flesh to different nations.

What is the Hindu concept of incarnation?

As was stated earlier in this article, the Hindu concept of "avatar" predates the Christian concept of the Word manifest in the flesh (John 1:14) by a thousand years. In fact, among the so-called pagans, gods manifesting in the flesh was a common belief even though this is not delineated in the Old Testament of the Bible.

Harper’s Encyclopedia of Mystical & Paranormal Experience, defines "avatar" literally, as: " …a human incarnation of the Divine who functions as a mediator between people and god (p. 48). In the Sanskrit language "avatar" means literally "to descend." It is found in the sacred writings of the Hindu called Ramayana and Mahabharata (which is included in the Bhagavad-Gita). One has to see the principle of incarnation and not get caught in the various deities of the Hindu.

The Hindus believe that the deities or gods Rama, Krishna, and Vishnu have incarnated or become avatars countless numbers of times to save the world in times of crisis. They also believe in a final "avatar" that will be Kali, who will come to destroy the wicked and usher in a new era called Muha Yuga. This ONE Yahweh–Elohim of the Universe has manifest numerously to various nations of men as incarnations or avatars, before He came through the Virgin Mary as the Messiah and thereafter with only a small number documented in the Bible.

The Christians, who are ignorant of the scriptures and Elohim’s operation throughout time and eternity, have scoffed at the thought of God (Elohim) appearing to the Indians’ and other cultures. The main reason for the Christians’ skeptical attitude toward these people is because they were pagans. So, why would Elohim appear to pagans?

The Apostle Paul said the Holy Spirit appears in all men’s conscious to judge them. "For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another; Rom. 2:14-15)." To believe that God only appears to Christians is a great error

At least considering the possibility that Elohim manifested in the flesh shows that Elohim was more intimately connected with various races and cultures of humans than previously thought. What creator would leave his creatures without guidance and periodic visitations?
